More About My Treatment Approach
I have an Integrative Psychotherapy approach which is founded on four core strategies. Treatment modality utilized depends on the presenting problem, your personality style and best practice recommendations for your presenting issues. I employ this approach to psychotherapy with other methods such as Talk Therapy. Additionally, my client and I can explore a wide range of mental health support tools including playing or listening to music, hobbies, pets, mindfulness breathing, and humor. My therapeutic style is direct, interactive and collaborative. I am truly committed to the wellbeing of each client and guarantee a personal level of care.
My primary approaches to psychotherapy consist of the following:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
This approach is acutely solution-focused and places less emphasis on insight into the psyche. In this approach I help people understand how their difficulties are intertwined with unproductive ways of thinking and behaving. By increasing one’s understanding of this connection between thought, behavior, and emotion, one can move toward actively developing new, more productive ways of thinking and behaving, which in turn diminishes difficult or negative emotions.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT is a Mindfulness-based approach that pairs elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with principles borrowed from the Zen Buddhist tradition such as awareness in the present moment, compassion toward self and others, and finding freedom through mindful acceptance of thoughts and feelings rather than giving into the urge to avoid your own discomfort.
Motivational interviewing is a form of collaborative conversation for strengthening a person’s own motivation and commitment to change. It is a person-centered counseling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change, by paying particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen an individual’s motivation for and movement toward a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change, within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.
A psychodynamic approach helps people understand their sense of self and relationship patterns resulting from life experiences. In other words, we explore your past to gain insight into how significant experiences have shaped the way you perceive events and relationships in your life.
